Visual Portrait of a Story

September 25, 2016  •  Leave a Comment

This is a draft of a Visual Portrait of a Story for the MAT Education Technology class. This will ultimately be turned into a digital story and published on the web.

It is a story of the challenges in learning the Tlingit language and the push to continue learning it and eventually teaching it to others. Some of the challenges are that there are only a small number of original Tlingit language speakers, lack of a constant place that the language is spoken, few places to learn the language, a difficult language to learn, and is a difficult language to be active in because of the small number of people that speak it and are learning it.

The Tlingit language is a threatened language, like many heritage languages in the country and around the world. I am in the process of learning the Tlingit Language and trying to pass it on to others that are interested in the revitalizing it or those that have an interest in just learning a little.
